Satya Nadella visiting tsinghua

This is a short node I made when MS’s new CEO, Satya Nadella, visited our school and made a speech about MS and innovation.

* Impression to China: An Energetic Place; human potential
* Learned as CEO: foundation or grounding: of any company contributing to the world.
of MS:
1. passion to utilize productivity, computing power around us
2. creating ecosystem / platforms

* ubiquitous computing & ambient intelligence; device come and go, the experience persists.

* curiosity (learning outside tech area):
reading great literature (EQ, which is important, is caught in literature.)
multi-discipline approach, learning from different places

* industry doesn’t respect tradition (only innovation)? :
tradition is not to be attacked
focus on source of innovation: (innovation of long term)

* China’s innovation:
previous: business model innovation + tech innovation, amazing
now: talking about chinese innovation for the world market

* Accelerate innovation:
1. human capital;
2. cloud structure

Q&A section:
Copycat in china? Hope them do learn, don’t copy
Anti-trust law? Cooperate with gov’t, to contribute lawfully
Close ecosystem like apple? Open in long ground, different set of skill. at MS. (Example: 65% of VM in Azure is linux…)
Firing people recently: pursue to excellence as a whole, investing in R&D always
Wearable devices? future is of sensor network like Beijing real-time traffic monitoring; don’t limit ourselves on body.
